HealTHI is a dairy shed Temperature-Humidity Index (THI) monitoring app from Smartbell, helping UK dairy farmers track heat-stress conditions in real time and protect herd welfare, milk yield, and fertility. This policy explains what data the HealTHI app collects, why, and how it’s protected.

1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

• Email address and password (authenticated via Amazon Cognito)

• Name, if provided during signup

2.2 Farm & Building Data

• Farm name and details you enter when setting up your account

• Shed/building names, capacity, and configuration

• Sensor IDs, registered by scanning a QR code on the physical sensor

• Live and historic THI sensor readings — temperature, humidity, and calculated heat-stress levels for each shed

2.3 Weather Data

To generate THI forecasts, HealTHI retrieves local weather data from the Open-Meteo weather service. This is looked up using the farm details you provide during setup — not your device’s live location.

2.4 Camera (QR Scanner)

The app uses your device camera only to scan the QR code printed on a physical THI sensor during shed setup. We do not store camera images — only the decoded sensor ID.

2.5 Location

Not currently used. The current version of HealTHI does not access or collect your device’s live location. A future release may introduce optional location-based features (e.g. auto-detecting farm location for weather lookups) — this policy will be updated in advance, and the relevant device permission will be requested at that time with your consent.

2.6 Technical & Diagnostic Data

4. How We Store & Secure Your Data

• Authentication is handled through Amazon Cognito.

• Farm, shed, and sensor data is processed via AWS API Gateway and stored on AWS infrastructure.

• All data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).

• Access tokens expire after 1 hour; refresh tokens last up to 30 days and are used only to keep you signed in.

6. Data Retention

We keep your account and farm data for as long as your account is active. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email healthi@smartbell.io. We’ll action deletion requests within 30 days, except where we’re required to retain data for legal or security reasons.

7. Your Rights

• Access or update your account details from the app’s Settings screen

• Request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it

• As a UK-based service, HealTHI honours your rights under UK GDPR — including access, correction, deletion, and objection to certain processing

8. Children’s Privacy

HealTHI is built for farm operators and staff and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as HealTHI evolves — for example, when new features like location-based forecasting are introduced. Material changes will be flagged in the app or by email. Continuing to use HealTHI after an update means you accept the revised policy.
